Brazilian Roots is a multi-faceted marketing company based in the City of Rio de Janeiro focusing on sustainable tourism development for the Afro Carioca community. The term “Carioca” is used by the citizens of Rio to describe themselves, hence “Afro Carioca”. As such our focus is on servicing neglected consumer segments within the city through the development of segment relevant Afro Carioca tourism products and the cultivation of its appreciation worldwide. Our canvases are live events and audiovisual.
Our tourism development work involves personal direct engagement with the Afro Carioca community in which tourism takes place. We work substantively with key stakeholders, reflecting governmental concerns, residents, community and business groups, NGO’s et al in an effort to identify communal assets: its history, religion, food, dance, music, film, art, people, their view of nature, and architecture. Accordingly, we view sustainable tourism from a cluster based perspective.
Brazilian Roots is comprised of Brazilian and US professionals. We are fully knowledgeable of the social, cultural, political, legal, and economic characteristics of both countries. Our former clients include: consulting services for Essence Communications; the NBA; Avocet Travel; You Entertainment; as well as three of the most dominant African American radio stations (WDAS-FM of Philadelphia, and WBLS-FM and KISS-FM of New York City). Each of these entities participated in the Rio Rendezvous tours whose end product was live broadcasted from Rio de Janeiro.
